5 Bucks, 3 Doe’s, 1 Fox (but not all at once) – Photos at the Bell Diamond Mine in Butte

Am I in a Disney Movie?

All that’s missing is rays of sunshine and bluebirds singing.

…Rewind a a few minutes…

The morning started a bit earlier than I’d like on a Sunday, with my 5 year old waking me up with a sore throat.

Getting back into my warm bed was tempting…but alas, there was work to be done with Butte Daily Photo and my business!

I grabbed a coffee and went on a short drive up to the Bell Diamond mine.

It was dark enough for my auto headlights to stay on, but I could still see pretty well.

As I got closer to the mine, I remembered seeing a fox in the same area a few times in the past year.

“Hm…it’d be nice if I could see that fox again, I wonder if it’s still around.”

As soon as the thought was finished, almost like magic I saw a fox hop through the field, it’s long tail trailing behind.

Then BOOM!

It was as if I was looking into one of those seeing eye 3D visual puzzles – 5 buck’s in the field suddenly appeared.

I verbally said “WOAH! Holy crap,” even though the only person or thing in my car was my blue heeler Millie.

Across th street a ways down there were 3 does as well.

Now, I’m not much of a wildlife photographer.

Partially because it’s really, REALLy hard to get anything good…

…or unique…

…and with my gear, you need to be semi close, because I can go to a max of 300mm.

And while these might not be National Geographic cover-worthy?

They’re 10x better than the only competition that matters: my own work.

Photographs below:

You can see the butt of a doe in the background to the left of the buck’s ears.
